Horses and the Atlantic Coast
Riding on the Sand at Comporta
Comporta
A private ride on Lusitano horses along an almost empty Atlantic beach.
Alentejo, Portugal — an hour from Lisbon, a world away
Cork oak forests, ancient stones, white villages, horses at the edge of the Atlantic and skies full of stars. Just over an hour from Lisbon and its airport, the Alentejo is Portugal as it was, and as it still is when you slow down enough to find it.
Curated by Portugal Magik
The Alentejo covers a third of Portugal and is home to only a small share of its people. That is the point. Here luxury is space, silence, craft and time, shared with the families who still make cork, wine, olive oil, pottery and tapestry the way their parents did. No queues, no crowds, no rush. Only a little over an hour from Lisbon.
Slow, small scale and local. Fewer, better experiences, and longer stays in one place.
Cork, clay, wool and wine, shaped by crafts passed down through families.
Your own pace and your own guide, in a private vehicle with only your party.
Easy to reach
Land in Lisbon in the morning and be under a cork oak, glass of Alentejo wine in hand, by lunch. The northern Alentejo begins a little over an hour from Lisbon's airport on a smooth motorway, and the most remote corners are still a comfortable day's journey. No internal flights, no crowded transfers.

Eat and Drink
Bread thickens soups, accompanies cheese and becomes migas beside pork. Around Évora and the surrounding countryside, Alentejo cooking draws on olive oil, herbs and food from the land. This guide begins with the dishes that explain the table.

Why this guide exists
Alentejo Slow Luxury was created by Portugal Magik, the private tour company behind some of Portugal's most personal journeys. After 15 years designing and operating tours across the country, we built this guide to share the Alentejo we know: the families, estates, studios and viewpoints that rarely make it online.
Plan
Choose what moves you and how long you can stay. We will shape a first outline, and our team will refine it with you.
Good to know
The nearest corners of the Alentejo are about an hour from Lisbon and its airport. Most regions sit between one and two and a half hours away by road, so you can land in the morning and be among the cork oaks by lunch.
Spring and autumn suit every region, with soft light, green or golden plains and gentle temperatures. Winter is quiet and lovely inland, and summer belongs to the coast and the lake, when the interior grows very hot.
Yes. Alentejo Slow Luxury is a free editorial guide. There is nothing to pay and nothing to sign up for. You can save experiences to your Journey Board and draft a journey with the trip designer at no cost.
